Observing an invisible Higgs boson
نویسنده
چکیده
Given its weak coupling to bottom quarks and tau leptons, the Higgs boson may predominantly decay into invisible particles like gravitinos, neutralinos, or gravitons. We consider the manifestation of such an invisibly decaying Higgs boson in weak boson fusion at the CERN LHC. Distinctive kinematic distributions of the two quark jets of the signal as compared to Zjj and Wjj backgrounds allow to restrict the Higgs branching ratio to ’invisible’ final states to some 13% with 10 fb of data, provided events with two energetic forward jets of high dijet invariant mass and with substantial missing transverse momentum can be triggered efficiently. It is also possible to discover these particles with masses up to 480 GeV in weak boson fusion, at the 5σ level, provided their invisible branching ratio is close to 100%.

Can an invisible Higgs boson be seen via diffraction at the LHC ?
We study the possibility of observing an ‘invisible’ Higgs boson in central exclusive diffractive production at the LHC. We evaluate the cross section using, as a simple example, the Standard Model with a heavy fourth generation, where the invisible decay mode H → ν4ν̄4 dominates, with the heavy neutrino mass M(ν4) ≃ 50 GeV. We discuss the possible requirements on trigger conditions and the back...
متن کاملSearch for an Invisible Decaying Higgs Boson in Dilepton Events at CDF
We present the first search at the Tevatron for a Higgs boson decaying to an invisible final state. We use the full CDF Run II data set corresponding to 9.7 fb−1 of integrated luminosity. We search in the associated ZH production mode and require two same-flavor, oppositely charged leptons and a significant value of missing transverse energy to be in the final state. We exclude values of σZH×B ...
متن کاملA Minimal Spontaneously Broken Hidden Sector and its Impact on Higgs Boson Physics at the Large Hadron Collider
Little experimental data bears on the question of whether there is a spontaneously broken hidden sector that has no Standard Model quantum numbers. Here we discuss the prospects of finding evidence for such a hidden sector through renormalizable interactions of the Standard Model Higgs boson with a Higgs boson of the hidden sector. We find that the lightest Higgs boson in this scenario has smal...
متن کاملHiggs Boson Searches at Lep
The results of the Higgs boson searches performed by the four LEP experiments at centre-of-mass energies between 189 GeV and 209 GeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2461 pb −1 are presented here. Searches have been performed for Higgs in the Standard Model (SM), in 2 Higgs Doublet Models (2HDM's), for doubly charged, fermiophobic and invisible Higgs as well as a decay mode independ...
متن کاملLoop induced Higgs and Z boson couplings to Neutralinos and implications for collider and Dark Matter searches
We calculate the one-loop induced couplings of two gaugino–like neutralinos to the Z and Higgs bosons in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. These couplings, which vanish at the tree level, can be generated through loops involving fermions and sfermions. We show that, while the neutralino contribution to the invisible Z boson decay width remains small, the loop induced couplings to the l...
